August 2014 - It’s official: first ask of Sweet $16 campaign achieved

We have been fighting together as a union for recognition of homecare for 20 years. Through strikes, bargaining, political action, and lobbying, this has been a journey for change. And finally, we have something to celebrate.

At last the new Ontario government has passed its budget containing an across-the-board raise of $4 over the next three years for home and community care personal support workers. This means that thanks to you supporting your sisters and brothers in this fight, these chronically underpaid workers will get a raise, starting with $1.50 retroactive to April 1, 2014.

That’s one ask down, and several more to go to achieve justice for PSWs, the people whose utmost care and compassion truly make them the heart of homecare.
