Carol McDowell has been bringing fairness and dignity to our hospitals for over 30 years. After she earned her RPN diploma from Niagara College, she got a nursing job on the surgical floor at St. Catharines Hospital in 1979. As a union steward, she fought hard to ensure her co-workers were treated fairly.
Carol helped SEIU Healthcare expand rapidly in Niagara, making our union a force to be reckoned with in the region's hospitals. Carol has worked tirelessly to help nurses reach their full potential. She was instrumental in the creation of the Nursing Division in 2006 to enhance, promote, and protect the role of nurses in our healthcare system.
In 2012 Carol was appointed the servicing lead for SEIU Healthcare's hospital sector, and in 2014 she was appointed to the role of Executive Vice-President.
