As a union with over 55,000, we understand that not everyone has met their local union rep, let alone the leadership team.
That’s why our President Sharleen Stewart, Vice-president Carol McDowell, and Treasurer Manny Carvalho went on a road trip called “Tomorrow Together.” They know you’re busy, so wanted to connect with you on your turf. They asked: What kind of union do you want SEIU Healthcare to be?
Sharleen, Carol, and Manny visited 13 cities over 4 weeks: Hamilton, Cambridge, St Catharines, Niagara, Sarnia, Peterborough, Ottawa, North Bay, Collingwood, Barrie, Bellville, Thunder Bay, and the GTA.
They spoke to hundreds of members, to hear from you and gather your responses on the new direction of our union: to build the power of members and create political influence.
290 members attended the GTA event. We were pleased to see that members were excited to communicate one-on-one with Sharleen, Carol, and Manny and the other leaders. Members had a good time and enjoyed the camaraderie in the room.
The GTA event, like many other city stops, sparked new relationships leading up to our SEIU Healthcare 2015 convention.
We hope that more members will get involved in with SEIU Healthcare and use our collective “purple power” to fight for the interests of working people and the public healthcare system.
Many of you are already leaders in your workplaces and communities. Let’s plan #TomorrowTogether!
