She is a Developmental Support Worker who is passionate about helping people who have a developmental disability. She is an SEIU Healthcare member who works for Community Living in Burlington.
"The role of a Developmental Support Worker involves looking after people with a developmental disability, including meeting their medical, physical and emotional needs,” Jenn said. “Some people have difficulty communicating, which can result in aggressive or self-abusive behavior, putting others or that person in harm’s way. As support workers, there are many complex issues and struggles that we deal with daily, however the genuine love and acceptance from the people we support, outweighs the barriers."
Jenn has a wide variety of skills that she applies on the job. She is a day program support worker who works with an amazing team. Teamwork is often key in providing quality support to others in this field. "Our team teaches life skills, encourages independence and promotes community integration by building employment skills, and providing recreational and physical activities to promote a healthy, holistic lifestyle!" she added.

Committed people like Jenn, and her team members are doing everything they can to improve the lives of people living with a developmental disability.
SEIU Healthcare celebrates all developmental support workers on January 20, to acknowledge the important work they do every day.
