    Gender Wage Gap Town Halls

    Gender Wage Gap Town Halls

Have your voice heard! SEIU Healthcare is encouraging member participation in the Gender Wage Gap Consultation Town Halls that are currently underway across the province.

The Town Halls are an important aspect of an Ontario Government initiative focused on closing the income gap between men and women. The Town Halls are being organized by the Gender Wage Gap Strategy Steering Committee, which is collecting information from the public to inform their understanding of the causes of the persistent pay gap between men and women. They want to know how women are affected by the wage gap, at work, in their families, and in their communities. The Gender Wage Gap Strategy Steering Committee will ultimately make recommendations towards developing a strategy to close the gender wage gap and reduce work-related barriers for women. They will consider all contributions made at the Town Halls when they are making their recommendations to the Ontario Government.

SEIU Healthcare Members are encouraged to attend the upcoming Gender Wage Gap Town Halls and let the Steering Committee know how you have been impacted by the gender wage gap. Members can speak to a wide range of issues relating to the wage gap including access to education, childcare, caregiving leaves, employer practices, immigration/settlement issues, barriers to unionization, precarious working conditions, increasing the minimum wage, violence and harassment, and the intersectionality of other forms of discrimination which dramatically increase the wage gap for racialized and Aboriginal women as well as women with disabilities and women living in same-sex couples.
