SEIU Healthcare worked with the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and other stakeholders to spearhead the PSW Registry, which launched in June 2012.
Nearly 30,000 PSWs are now registered. The Registry helps to better recognize the work personal support workers do for Ontario, while helping to better meet the needs of the people they care for.
An essential first step in strengthening homecare capacity and contributing to transformational change in the province’s healthcare system, this is what the Registry does:
- Recognizes the role of PSWs as part of an inter-professional healthcare team
- Increases the access of Ontarians to PSWs to meet employment needs
- Supports enhanced public safety
- Increases health human resources planning capacity by making aggregate PSW data publicly available
