It's a busy time of year for SEIU Healthcare, with several important campaigns underway, and many other exciting events coming up.
May 2 was the official launch of our “Keep Hospitals Working” campaign with a barbeque at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Bayview in Toronto.
Many of our members came out to have a hamburger or hotdog and take in some of the beautiful day while on their break. SEIU Healthcare’s executive vice-president, Emanuel (Manny) Carvalho, was on hand for the launch, as was NDP MPP (Davenport), Jonah Schein.
Our campaign theme, “We Keep Hospitals Working,” is our way of highlighting the hard work our members do every day in our hospitals – and the fact that they’re expected to do more with less. There are serious pressures on the healthcare system – especially the hospital sector. Part of the solution is capping hospital CEO salaries and investing the money in the frontline care instead.
SEIU Healthcare was asked in April for our input into yesterday’s Ontario budget, and we’re encouraged that several of our recommendations, particularly around homecare, were included. We plan to keep the pressure on, and will work with all parties to make sure these recommendations are implemented. (For more on our take on the budget click here)
“We Keep Hospitals Working” is part of an even bigger campaign launching later this month. Our heart of healthcare campaign kicks off May 13 with a series of TV commercials and radio commercials, transit-shelter posters and newspapers ads that people will see across the province.
The ads feature real SEIU Healthcare members (including our proud Sunnybrook members!) showcasing their interaction with patients and clients.
And we’re not stopping there. SEIU Healthcare is also taking our Fulfilling the Promise of homecare campaign message to several municipal governments, including Ajax and Hamilton - with more planned.
