SEIU VP Marches for Equality

On the heels of Black History Month, while attending an SEIU International union meeting in Alabama, I took the opportunity to join the annual "Selma to Montgomery" march. A journey that commemorates the thoughtless injustices committed against black Americans during the civil rights movement.
The walk is in memory of Jimmy Lee Jackson, a civil rights activist who was murdered by Alabama State Troops in 1965 during a protest in support of a group of fellow activists who were unfairly imprisoned. The police responded to the protest with brute force, and Jimmy was shot by an officer while trying to rescue his mother and grandfather who were being viciously beaten. Eight days later, Jimmy died of his injuries.
