SEIU Healthcare: Long-Term Care Council

Our Central Nursing Home Bargaining Committee sets precedents for agreements in our entire industry. We sit at the central bargaining table representing over 16,000 employees working in over 100 nursing homes.

On average, SEIU contracts in long-term care are second to none. We never stop working to improve wages, benefits and working conditions for workers in nursing and retirement homes.

Over 23,000 SEIU members – nearly half our membership - are employed in nursing and retirement homes throughout Ontario.

Our current goals are to:

  • Pressure the government to invest more money in nursing homes to hire more staff, reduce workloads, and increase staff hours to ensure every resident receives 3.5 hours of care every day
  • Create new laws regulating care for seniors in retirement homes
  • Engage members to become active in their union.

SEIU Healthcare will continue to advocate for workers in nursing, personal support, dietary, housekeeping, maintenance, recreation, clerical, laundry, janitorial, and other services.
